Dont Use FFAs To Build Your Newsletter Subscriber

Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 58 / Comment (0)

For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, The initials FFA stand for "FREE For All" and my advice would be don't waste your time! FFA's DON'T WORK!

FFA sites are directories where anyone can place their ad for free. And that's exactly what you geta zillion people posting free ads.

When you post your ad on an FFA directory or site, here's what will happen. You'll immediately get back in response to your ad a truckload of autoresponder e-mails from every Tom, Dick and Harriet soliciting you to join their programs. Hardly anyone ever actually reads your ad. FFA's will produce next to zero new subscribers to your newsletter.

Here are some suggestions to help you build your newsletter subscriber list:

1. Put a subscriber box on your web site. People can easily enter their email address and send it to you. A percentage of people who visit your web site will sign up for your newsletter. Just don't scare them off by asking for a lot of personal information. Put their minds at ease by promising not to share their e-mail address with anyone else.

E-mail 101: The Dos and Donts

Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 71 / Comment (3)

Even though many people have been writing e-mails for a few years now, you would be amazed at some of the pure gibberish that arrives in my e-mailbox on a regular basis.

Many people seem to think that because they aren't dealingdirectly with another person (or as directly as they wouldbe face-to-face or by telephone), all forms of civility andbasic respect for the other person (i.e. the recipient),and the English language, can go out the proverbial window.

Not true! Writing e-mails is still communicating. Both therecipient and the language still deserve your respect.

The following Dos and Don'ts of writing e-mails have beenadapted from my eBook entitled "Instant Home Writing Kit".The first version of these appeared in another one of mybooks "Internet Basics without fear!" (2000).

E-MAIL DOS AND DON'TS

DO... Use A Descriptive Subject Line

There is nothing more annoying than receiving e-mails inyour e-Inbox with no heading, or a heading that does notexplain what the contents of the message is all about.

What Successful Sellers Know - Others Dont ... The Subtle Art of Closing

Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 40 / Comment (0)

Ask any salesperson, "At what point in the selling process does the 'Close' take place?" Eight out of ten will answer, "at the End". To be fair, they are not totally incorrect but they are, nevertheless, more wrong than right proving in principle and in practice, Perado's Law: Twenty percent of the sales force make eighty percent of the sales and profitability.

The questions that should then be asked are, "Why it is so many professional sellers have it wrong?" and, "What is right?"

For decades salespeople were [and still are] taught certain accepted selling fundamentals; the best being Dale Carnegie's 5-Steps to a Sale: Attention, Interest, Conviction, Desire and Close. Perhaps a little ahead of his peers, Carnegie's formula has certainly stood the test of time and continues to work. On the other hand, selling, like so many other disciplines, has many subtle layers that color the process, especially as it relates to the Close and like the 1/100th of a second that can separate a Gold Metal winner from Silver, the outcome in sales is equally dramatic.

Dont Let the Internet Overstimulate Your Mind

Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 40 / Comment (0)

The Internet is an awesome tool, but be careful and aware that the cloud of over stimulation doesn't invade your mind.

It seems we have to become aware of a new problem that is starting to invade our modern, industrial society, that being the problem of over stimulation. The Internet is an excellent tool but we have to remember that the mind is the most valuable tool imaginable. Some would argue that spirit or soul is of equal or more importance, I am not disagreeing with these people. The point that I am attempting to put forward for discussion is that although the Internet is an excellent new medium that can affect nearly all aspects of life in a positive way, like all things in existence it too has a shadow side. Over stimulation of the mind is a huge cloud in the blue sky of consciousness.

Have you ever sat at your desk searching through the Web for News information, then checking your emails with their accompanying attachments and links, and then doing general searches for random information? If you receive newsletters, or subscribe to blogs, you read these daily as well. The human mind is powerful, and scientists say that we only use an average of 10 % of it, but doesn't that entail that we should be careful not to overload its present information processing capabilities?

Dont Eliminate The Middle Man - Add One

Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 374 / Comment (309)

Today, there are situations when we actually add a "middle person" instead of eliminating one for increased service efficiency. If it's cost-effective and demand is high, then proper market positioning will make it a worthwhile endeavor. For example, my sister just informed me of a food delivery service in New Mexico that will let you choose one out of many different food outlets (all types of ethnic/fast food)- and then guarantees delivery within a specific time period. This not only gives the customer assurance of reliability, but more choices for dining take -out style.

In other areas of industry, the same idea holds true. There are electrical suppliers that no longer manufacture the product of electricity, but now are involved only in the delivery process of electricity to the customers. Because of market fluctuations, the new delivery supplier will utilize many other different energy suppliers to get the product of electricity to the customer efficiently and at the best market price. Again, adding the middle man seems to benefit all around.
