How to Leverage Your Strengths for Peak Performance
Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 52 / Comment (1)
Ask almost any business leader how to most effectively develop people and build teamwork and you'll hear, "tap into employees' strengths." Yet when it comes to their own careers, many managers still focus the majority of their personal development efforts on shoring up areas of weakness.
Sometimes this is due to well meaning critiques by superiors. Other times managers moving up the career ladder try to emulate those who have gone before.
While all managers need to hone their communication and people skills, learning these skills and adding knowledge is simple. Recognizing, developing and deliberately leveraging ones own strengths is more difficult.
Many programs are available to help the ambitious manager improve performance, but a review of typical business practices points to a common fallacy. Whether in individual development plans, performance reviews or 360 evaluations, efforts to help people change for the better often focus more on weaknesses than on strengths.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery - The Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan
Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 53 / Comment (0)
Essentially, the plan addresses the who, what, where, why and when of recovery. Goal number one is to reduce the risk profile of the business. Goal two is to be well prepared so the impact of any disruption is minimized. Overall, the objective of the plan is to effectively minimize the chances of disruption and, if there is a disruption, to quickly implement the recovery and get the business or organization working again. The "why" is to maximize business continuity and minimize damages to company assets. Ultimately, the goal is to protect the organization from the key risks identified and to effectively implement the recovery strategies.
The "what" is a clear, detailed, but focused business continuity and disaster recovery plan, a plan that provides a successful road map to minimize business interruption and maximize business continuity.
The "who" refers to the teams. The recovery effort is focused through teams. While the Emergency Management Team is the leader of the recovery efforts, other teams could include: IT, telecommunications, facilities and power, customer relations, public relations, billing, customer service, and human resources.
Increase Sum in Your Check Account with Follow-Ups

We'll be examining what makes follow up to prospects/customers so important on our online world today.
Are you familiar with this scenario?
- Joined an affiliate program with good pay-out.
- Send an email to everyone you know and/or send an email to a list of people
- Didn't make any sales
- Change to another affiliate program
This never ending cycle is what I used to do.
Until I stumble across a training article from Six-Figure Income Marketing Group - "The Fortune is in the Follow-Up!" I wake up.
I was clearly informed of this statistics:
The average sale is closed as follows:
- 2% on 1st contact
- 3% on 2nd contact
- 5% on 3rd contact
- 10% on 4th contact
- 80% on 5th-12th contact
I then think: if follow up is so important what information can I give to my prospects?

Behavioral Manifestations of Alzheimer's Dementia
Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 51 / Comment (0)
Alzheimer's Dementia has a combination of cognitive and behavioral manifestations. Cognitive impairment is the core problem which includes memory deficits and at least one of the following: aphasia or language problem, agnosia or problems with recognition, apraxia or motor activity problem, and impairment in executive functioning (e.g. planning, abstract reasoning, and organizing).
As the disease advances, the cognitive decline becomes associated with behavioral manifestations. What are these behavioral manifestations of dementia?
Behavioral syndromes in Alzheimer's can be grouped into two categories: psychological and behavioral. Major psychological syndromes consist of depression, anxiety, delusions, and hallucinations.
Depression in dementia is very common. Up to about 87% of patients develop some form of depression. It is characterized by tearfulness or crying episodes, feelings of sadness, and neurovegetative signs and symptoms such as inability to sleep, lack of appetite, poor energy, and thoughts of death. Irritability is also common. Depression can occur even in the early or mild phase of the illness.

Are All Dementias Alzheimer's?
Submitted Friday, March 16, 2007 / Views 52 / Comment (0)
I'm surprised when some patients and caregivers confuse dementia and Alzheimer's as one and the same. Each time a family member is suffering from memory loss, the conclusion is always Alzheimer's. Is it reasonable to label all dementias as Alzheimer's?
As a clinician, my answer to queries is that Alzheimer's dementia is only one type of dementia and that not all dementias are Alzheimer's. Aside from Alzheimer's disease, other dementias exist such as Dementia with lewy body, Vascular dementia, Parkinson's disease with dementia, and dementias due to various neurologic and medical conditions.
How will you know if a person is suffering from Alzheimer's dementia? What is Alzheimer's dementia?
Alzheimer's dementia is a neurologic disorder characterized by a progressive and irreversible cognitive decline associated with impairment in functioning. The cognitive deterioration consists of memory impairment. Initially there is recent memory impairment but as the disease progresses, even the long term memory is affected.
